MArch Manchester School of Architecture | 2018 | Burnage, Manchester
PROJECT  DESCRIPTION
Social Safety was a Manchester School of Architecture project that was ran in collaboration with Southway Housing Trust. The project focusses on intergenerational living by providing a wide range of apartment typologies that cater to a range of demographics ranging from low rent studio apartments to 3 Bedroom family homes. The site we were working on was an open green space at the rear of an existing development owned by Southway with issues related to access and a restructuring of the neighbourhood. The design aimed to allow visual connections to be made from peoples homes into the communal areas to help alleviate social anxiety by limiting the amount of social risk.  Due to the decanting strategy this project would have tight on site time limits and in an attempt to combat this SIPs were chosen as the construction method.  Please scroll through the images below to get an understanding of the project.
